Using an Apple Device at HACC

Considerations When Using an Apple Device (MacBook, iPhone, iPad) at HACC

The Apple operating systems, macOS for Mac computers, iOS for iPhone and iPadOS for iPad are fully supported by HACC's User Support Team. Please be aware of the considerations below when using an Apple device

Wifi Requirements

Occasionally users with personal Apple devices may find that they are unable to connect to HACCwifi. This issue can be caused by running an incompatible operating system on a Apple device.

Apple devices need to be running at least the minimum required operating system versions listed below that support EAP-TTLS v1.2, used in 802.1X authentication:

  • Macs: macOS High Sierra (10.13) – released 9/2017
  • iPads: iPadOS 13.1 – released 9/2019
  • iPhones: iOS 11 – released 9/2017

If a device is running an operating system lower than the versions above, it will not be able to connect to HACCwifi.  One solution is to upgrade the device to a higher operating system version, if the device supports it.

Outlook 365 for Mac

Outlook 365 for Mac is as full-featured as the Windows version, however its user interface looks very different and behaves differently.

MS Access not included

MS Access has not been developed for the Mac platform, therefore is missing from the Mac version of Office 365. To use Access, users will need to obtain a HACC VDI connection that is provided for certain CIS Classes. Otherwise, they will need to use a Windows PC.

PSPP may not work

User Support has received reports that the Mac version of the statistical software package, PSPP, may not work as expected on the macOS Ventura operating system or higher. This is due to a lack of recent updates by the software developer. Users should make sure that they are using a version of PSPP for Mac that is compatible with their operating system. If there is not a version of PSPP that is compatible with your Mac’s operating system, you may need to use the Windows version of this software on a compatible device.
