Overview
This article provides instructions for setting up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) using your desktop or laptop computer and a smart phone using the Microsoft Authenticator app.
MFA verifies your identity using:
- Something you know: your password
- Something you have: your smart phone
The Microsoft Authenticator app generates a 6-digit verification code that refreshes every 30 seconds.

Step 1: Install Microsoft Authenticator
You will need to have the free Microsoft Authenticator app installed on your smart phone to enroll in MFA.

Step 1.5 MFA Enrollment
After installing Microsoft Authenticator on your mobile device, continue below:

Go back to the open MFA Enrollment page or login again to https://my.hacc.edu/

Progress to Step 1.5 on the MFA Enrollment page where you will start the registration of your device.
If you have logged on from a Laptop or Desktop you will want to use the QR code to register.
Note the “I NOW HAVE A 6-DIGIT TOKEN IN MY AUTHENTICATOR APP!” bar at the bottom of the page. This will be important later.

Registering your QR code using Microsoft Authenticator.
I. Open the Authenticator app on your mobile device. Tap the +, then select Other.


II. Your camera will now open. Use this to scan the QR picture provided in Step 2 above. The capture will be automatic and you should now see an account labeled HACCMFA along with your 6-digit code.

- Return to the MFA enrollment page on your computer and click “I NOW HAVE A 6-DIGIT TOKEN IN MY AUTHENTICATOR APP!”

- Enter the 6-digit code that is currently displayed in the authenticator app and click Verify.
Note: The code will change every 30 seconds so make sure to check the timer on the password before entering. An expired code will fail.
- Your enrollment is now complete. You will be offered a few one-time use codes ("scratch codes") that you can use as a backup to login in during an emergency where your registered device is lost, stolen, or unavailable.

Important Notes
- The verification code refreshes every 30 seconds.
- Be sure to enter the code before it expires.
- If the code expires, use the newly displayed code.
